Five times the volume at the same entry price.
Why people move from Mailgun
Mailgun's Basic plan is $15 a month for 10,000 emails, with overage from $1.80 per thousand and one day of log retention. The log retention is what catches people out: when a customer says they never received something, a one-day window often means the answer is already gone.
Where Mailgun is better
Mailgun's inbound email routing is genuinely good and more flexible than ours, and its email validation product is a mature, separately useful service. If you parse inbound mail as a core part of your product, that is a strong reason to stay.

What the code change looks like
For a transactional integration this is usually the whole job: swap the SDK, change the key, verify the domain.
import formData from "form-data"
import Mailgun from "mailgun.js"
const mg = new Mailgun(formData).client({
username: "api",
key: process.env.MAILGUN_API_KEY,
})
await mg.messages.create("yourdomain.com", {
from: "you@yourdomain.com",
to: ["customer@example.com"],
subject: "Welcome aboard",
html: "<p>Thanks for signing up.</p>",
})import { Pigeonify } from "pigeonify"
const pigeonify = new Pigeonify(process.env.PIGEONIFY_API_KEY)
await pigeonify.emails.send({
from: "you@yourdomain.com",
to: "customer@example.com",
subject: "Welcome aboard",
html: "<p>Thanks for signing up.</p>",
})You can run both providers at once while you move. Publishing our DNS records alongside your existing ones does not stop Mailgun sending, so there is no cutover moment to get wrong.
Switching from Mailgun
- Does Pigeonify handle inbound email?
- No. If your product parses replies or routes inbound mail, Mailgun does that and we do not — it is a real reason to stay, or to use both.
- What happens when I exceed my plan?
- Sending pauses rather than silently billing you an overage. You move to the next tier when you are ready. That is a deliberate choice: an unexpected invoice is worse than a pause you control.
